Final Relief Model

Final Submission for Relief Model on Canvas.
Assignment 1 (part 2): Model making
Object: Coconut
Organization: Centralized
Principle:
-Axis
-Asymmetry
-Balance
-Movement
-Free flowing lines
-Hierarchy

Materials: Canvas, Modeling Boards, PVC Boards, Balsa Wood, Metal Sheets, Acrylic paint

Building process of Final Relief Model

The Submission for the relief model required students to do their model on Canvas as boards/ surface to build on. We were also required to include parts of the model to be drawings or paintings on the canvas and be creative about it they say... i mean making the model it self is already a BIG step for me and also time consuming, did i mention amount of money spent on modeling boards? However, with perseverance and determination i managed.

Building Process for Final Relief Model

The problem on my second attempt was the "Curvy" part with a lot of researching and looking for idea and inspirations, i managed to think of something!
We were allowed to use other materials other than Modeling boards such as Pvc boards, Balsa wood, Metal Sheets And also Acrylic paint for the drawing requirements for submission.

well hey now, it don't look half bad...

Second Mock-up for relief model

Comments given by the lecturer regarding on my first mock up model was that it does not show centralized enough and that i was just trying to "recreate" based on my abstract. Even though it hurts to hear such criticism however it is true and i agreed. To be frankly honest i actually did exactly what they said.

On my second attempt, i played around with the shapes by adding a slope on the end to visually show that as if they were all facing the center part to really give a centralized effect.

One of the part i did not include on my first mock up was the FREE FLOWING LINES. Which by the way is the most hardest part to make as this is my first time in model making. Trying to cut a curve to represent the surface and texture of the coconut was really time consuming and emotionally disturbing for me. As you can see on the image above, i did not do a good job. Comments by the lecture strike me again! they said that i was just pasting curving planes on the board and it did not really represent the coconuts surface. Once again, i too agreed with them, plus it really looked funny and awkward too me. Something was missing...
